A rare WWII glide bomb Henschel Hs293 was recovered during supervision of the Ostwind 2 submarine cable works.

Trident Archäologie accompanied this year's UXO clearance and the pre-lay run for the submarine cable system Ostwind 2 east of Rügen for the State Office for the Preservation of Historical Monuments in Mecklenburg-West Pomerania. Ostwind 2 is a project of the transmission system operator 50Hertz to connect the Arcadis Ost 1 and Baltic Eagle wind farms to the grid.

We came across the remains of a Henschel Hs 293 glide bomb from World War II off Lubmin. This radio-controlled missile with rocket engine was mainly used against ships. It was an experimental model without an explosive charge, which had presumably been tested at the nearby Peenemünde armaments centre. A total of 109 parts were recovered and subsequently handed over to the Peenemünde Historical Technical Museum.
